Tomodachi Life: 7 Features That Would Be Awesome In A Switch Sequel (2024)

Love it or hate it, Tomodachi Life has somewhat of a cult classic status in the realm of games released for the Nintendo 3DS. Much like the popular Sims franchise, Tomodachi Life has players creating Miis and watching as their daily lives play out; helping them out with friendships and relationships as well as daily tasks. "Miis" are customizable avatars that have been used on several Nintendo consoles, such as the Wii, 3DS, and Switch, but Tomodachi Life was the first time that these avatars were given personalities and even more customization.

Tomodachi Life has received overwhelmingly positive audience reviews since its release in 2013. This begs the question, why hasn't there been a port or sequel to Tomodachi Life for the Nintendo Switch? Whatever the reason may be, that hasn't stopped audiences from listing off all the features they hope will come to a sequel of Tomodachi Life.

7 Same-Sex Marriage

One of the biggest criticisms of Tomodachi Life that audiences were quick to point out is that Miis are only allowed to date and marry Miis of the opposite gender. Unless players attempt to manually change the binary of their Miis by dressing up male Miis to look female and vice versa, there is no way to have a same-sex couple in Tomodachi Life.

This was frustrating for players, to say the least, as it felt like Nintendo purposely left out that feature. However, Nintendo has since addressed the audience's criticism and said that future installments of Tomodachi Life will be more inclusive, allowing for same-sex relationships.

6 Mii Customization From Miitopia

Although Miitopia was far from Nintendo's greatest hit when it was first released for the 3DS in 2016, Miitopia's re-release that came to the Switch in 2021 was a far bigger hit amongst fans. Much of this was due to the vast amount of customization that was added.

Much like Tomodachi Life, players weren't given much room to stretch their legs and create unique Miis in the initial release of Miitopia. However, in the re-release players were given room to customize their avatars to the absolute limit, adding in makeup, several layers of features, different eye colors, and much more. This inclusion made for some stunning Mii designs, giving players the ability to re-create certain characters from animes and television shows to the tiniest detail. Players have high hopes that seeing the success of the Mii customization in Miitopia will inspire Nintendo to include that level of customization in a sequel to Tomodachi Life.

5 Tattoos & Piercings

Despite the vast amount of customization added in Miitopia, one feature is notably missing from both that game and Tomodachi Life: the ability to give Miis tattoos and piercings. Although it's possible to recreate a plethora of characters and real-life people in both games, many of them have tattoos and piercings that are notably missing from their Mii counterparts.

Although players hope for the customization selections from Miitopia to come to a sequel of Tomodachi Life, hopes are also high that Nintendo will additionally include an option to give Miis tattoos and piercings.

4 Larger Mii Limit

The apartment building in Tomodachi Life can only hold up to 100 Miis. For players who enjoy creating a bunch of Miis, this is a bit disheartening. After that 100 Mii limit is reached, the only option is to delete older Miis in order to make room for new ones.

It would be nice to have the Mii limit bumped up to 150 or 200 Miis in a sequel to Tomodachi Life. This would allow players more wiggle room with the character creation that the game bases itself on.

3 More Locations & Events

Tomodachi Life notably had a plethora of time-based events that would happen at different points in the day. When the player first opened their game in the morning, they would be greeted with an island-wide donation sequence at the fountain that would give them extra pocket money. Towards the evening, there would be an 8-bit style game to play at the amusem*nt park called Tomodachi Quest.

Although there are a bunch of events taking place at the handful of locations on the island, there could definitely be more to fill the hours in between events like the Chat Sessions and Magic Show. Similarly, Tomodachi Life would benefit from more locations, such as a mall or arcade.

2 Miitopia To Tomodachi Life Import

If Tomodachi Life ends up getting a Switch release with the same customization that was implemented into Miitopia, it would be helpful for players who own both games to have the option take the designs of their Miis from Miitopia and put them into Tomodachi Life.

Re-creating Miis can be a time-consuming and frustrating task, especially with the amount of intricate customization in Miitopia. Similar to the feature that let players take the Miis from their 3DS Mii Maker and put them into Tomodachi Life, allowing players the option to import their Miis from Miitopia would make owners of both games very happy.

1 More Scenarios & Increased Replay Value

One of the other largest criticisms of Tomodachi Life is the repetitiveness of the gameplay. Players would hop on and essentially play games with and do petty tasks for their Miis while they waited for one of them to have a more interesting scenario, like a potential friendship, relationship, or marriage.

While the scenarios involving friendships and relationships are interesting and quirky, there's so little of them that it takes a bit of gameplay to get to that point. Including more scenarios, such as dates and hangouts with specific friends, would make the connections between Miis a bit more interesting, as well as increase the replay value for players that are tired of playing Pixel Quiz.
